So, I run linux at home on my desktop. Works great. On my netbook? Just doesn’t feel quite right. I know I can take the time and tweak things, but that is not what this laptop is for. I just want it to work… and XP does a great job at that. After installing easy peasy, everything worked but everything just felt a little off. The remix interface seems like a hack. Oh, and it kept going through the installer after every reboot. It was installed and working fine, not sure why it wanted to change my language every time i rebooted. The mouse was ridiculously fast too, but I know I could have changed that. All in all, I think I could have used it but it just needs a lot of spit and polish… then I may try it again. Til then, I will run XP which BTW has all the same software installed on it that I would use under linux such as OO.org, Firefox, etc…

There are many things that make people happy, money, fame, excitement…but are they truly happy? I experience moments daily that make me realize I am happy and it involves none of those. Just hearing my son talk to me, and he knows who I am makes me happy. Accomplishing something challenging at work, gives me fulfillment. But, what really makes me happy is to know that I am loved. My parents let me know all the time how much they love me… and my son, shows it to me in ways that he doesn’t even realize. Just getting off the phone with him and him saying “I love you” without me saying it first makes me happy.
Ok, so yeah… I am happy, and I am very happy that starting in March I am going to be seeing my son at least once a month for the foreseeable future. AND, it sounds like he may get to come to my brother’s wedding. It is the little things, like spending time with your son…

So, I have brought my little Aspire One to work with me for the past few days and it has worked out great. I am able to steal the internet from the Galt House next door so I can check my mail through the day and whatnot. On my way home, I just tether my T-Mobile Shadow to my phone where ever I choose to go on the TARC bus in Louisville.
The machine itself is the perfect size for travelling around and keeping connected and with so many ways to get wireless, especially in downtown Louisville I see no need for a $60 subscription plan.
Also, this machine is nearly as fast as my desktop. I may notice waiting for an app to load off the hard drive a little longer but otherwise this thing zips along doing just fine. I am not asking it to watch HD video, just surf, check my mail, and write some blog posts… like I said, this thing is perfect.
Just today I used the webcam to show my son where I work at. That is one of the biggest reasons I got this. My son lives 2000 miles away and anytime he wants to see me, I can just about always turn on Skype and be chatting to him in no time.
Anyhow, enough blabbing about this thing. I am almost to my stop and need to pack up my laptop. BTW, riding the TARC bus rocks but that is a topic for another day.
